Members of the Baldwin-Felts Detective Agency pose with an improvised armored steel reinforced car known by striking UMWA miners as the Death Special, probably in Ludlow (Las Animas County), Colorado. The automobile was constructed from the body of a touring car and reinforced with steel by the CF & I (Colorado Fuel & Iron) plant in Pueblo. The detectives were brought in to suppress the striking coal miners in 1914. They hold rifles, and one man has his hand on one of the machine guns that were mounted on the automobile. The car has a floodlight mounted on the windscreen. The men wear suits and snap-brimmed hats. The driver wears a cap. A nearby railroad gondola car has a sign that reads: "Missouri, Kansas and Texas 13305."
